ANYTHING but that damn Quelf game

C'mon people.  It's been HOW long since anybody posted on the Somers Family Blog?  Emily made a valiant attempt with the Quelf game, but that is so passe.  I will break the impasse with a special reminder that Gramma D (alias Dolores, aka "D") has a birthday celebration coming up next weekend and will make a rare special appearance in the land of 10K lakes.  Be there or be square, folks.

Anyone want to play Quelf?

I went to a BBQ at my friend Andy's house last weekend. Andy, like me, is a board game aficionado, and often seems to be one new game ahead of me. His newest game is called Quelf, and it's pretty sweet. The set-up is simple--roll a dice, move the correct number of spaces, and pick a card based on the space you land on. The cards, though, are mostly wacky challenges like "Go splash water on your face, don't wipe it off, and come back singing a song about the ocean" and "Go around the circle naming foods the tallest player does not like to eat." There's always the option not to do the challenge and move back a couple of spaces, but the challenges aren't usually too awkward (except for the one where I had to sit on Andy's wife's lap until it was my turn again...)

I bring it up for two reasons: one, you should play it. And two, we should add it to our list of games for the New Year's 2010 board game tournament--we're having one, right?

Jack? 16

Happy birthday to Jack, who today turns 16.  Where does the time go?  On Friday he takes his driver's license test, so the roads may never be safe again.

Carl Polzin

I was informed that Carl Polzin died on May 31st.  Many of us certainly remember him fondly as the big man who shoveled us out of snow drifts, kept track of us at a St Patty's Day parade and hung Christmas lights...to name a few things.  More information will be coming about the funeral and details, but I guess they are holding off for a week or so to accommodate family members.  I would like to send flowers for his funeral from Dolores and the Somers girls, Susan, Nancy, Kathy, Jill and Janet.  Is that okay with everyone?
